The Hon James Marape

Hon Marape was nominated, elected, and sworn in as the 8th Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea by the National Parliament on 30 May 2019.

He graduated with a Bachelor in Arts Degree from University of Papua New Guinea in 1993 and a Postgraduate Graduate Honours in Environmental Science in 2000.

Prior to the elections, he was the Acting Assistant Secretary of Policy with the Department of Personnel Management (2001-2007).

Appointed Minister for Finance and leader of Government Business in 2007

Appointed as the Parliamentary Secretary for works and Transport on the 29 August 2007.

Appointed as Privileges Committee-Deputy Chair and member of Parliamentary Referral Committee on Inter-Government Relations on the 18 August 2011.

Appointed as Minister for Education on the 16/12/2008 to 2 August 2011

Appointed as Minister for Finance on July 2012. Resigned as Minister for Finance and Rural Development on 11 April 2019.

Third (3rd) term in Parliament, he resigned from the People’s National Congress Party on 20th April, 2019.

He then joined the Pangu PATI and was given the leadership role.
