TRADE: Prep for Post-Cotonou Negotiations in Brussels
In Europe for a series of meetings, Forum Secretary General, Dame Meg Taylor says her discussions in Brussels yesterday (April 12, 2018) around the post-Cotonou negotiations have been very positive. Pacific Islands Forum countries were commended for the pro-active approach they have assumed through their Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat in their preparations for the imminent post-Cotonou negotiations.
Pacific ACP members’ preparations will be strengthened by the appointment of Mr Shiu Raj in Brussels as the Pacific Islands Representative to the ACP (African, Caribbean and Pacific) Group and the European Union; Mr Raj will be responsible for the support and coordination of Pacific ACP preparations.
Pacific ACP Ambassadors will meet with Pacific Commonwealth State Leaders on the margins of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in London next week. Dame Meg’s series of meetings in Europe will culminate with her attendance of the 2018 CHOGM.
Earlier in the week, Dame Meg’s meetings in Geneva included the Pacific Islands Forum Delegation to the World Trade Organization – WTO Ambassador Mere Falemaka and her staff; the Secretary General of the UNCTAD, Dr Mukhisa Kituyi; and Mr William Lacy Swing, Director General of the International Office of Migration, on Tuesday (April 10th); Pacific Ambassadors including representatives of #Fiji, #SolomonIslandsand #Vanuatu; Michael Moller, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva (Palais des Nations); Robert Azevedo, the Director General of the WTO; and Ms Arancha Gonzalez, the Executive Director of the International Trade Centre (ITC).
