Pacific Islands Forum Secretarait
Forum Education Ministers' Meeting (FEdMM)
Ministers of Education of the Pacific Islands Forum first met in Auckland in May 2001, as directed by Forum Economic Ministers after their meeting in Palau in November 1999, to consider issues related to human resource development in the Forum region. Ministers identified an urgent need to address the provision of education to deliver better quality educational outcomes, which has implications for the whole process of education, and requires policy, planning, and resources to achieve improvements in overall educational development in the region. The outcome of that meeting was the Forum Basic Education Action Plan (FBEAP). Education Ministers indicated their wish to meet regularly and since 2001 have had five further meetings to discuss key regional issues in education. The review of the Forum Basic Education Action Plan is a key component of these annual meetings. Many areas covered in the FBEAP are being implemented via the PRIDE Project.
