Common areas of strategic interest

France has direct strategic and economic interests in the region through its Pacific territories of New Caledonia, French Polynesia and Wallis and Futuna. At the Fourth France-Ocean Summit Declaration (2015) France and Forum members agreed on the urgency of acting to combat climate change, in anticipation for the COP21 to the UNFCCC in Paris. Forum countries and France further reiterated their desire to cooperate on security, political, economic, social and sustainable development matters.
