Statement by Peter Forau, Deputy Secretary General, Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat

Democracy, elections and the media are very much interlinked. Elections define
democracy while the media enlightens and sustains it. Simply put democracy is rule by
the people. In the words of Abraham Lincoln, democracy is a government “of the
people, by the people and for the people”.
