SOLOMON ISLANDS REGIONAL SKILLS DEVELOPMENT PROJECT

Solomon Islands is among thirteen Forum Island Countries that are participating in a Regional Skills Development Study Project funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and executed by the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS).

The project will provide an in-depth analysis of capacity, standards and types of technical and vocational education and training in all thirteen participating countries. This will provide valuable information to policy makers,  Mrs Louisa Fakaia, Domestic Consultant for the Study said.

As the domestic consultant for the Study I will need to gather data from several sources including Ministry of Education and the Labour Division. In order to make the project successful, I seek the assistance of those in the Ministries involved and the government as a whole. I will also need assistance from other stakeholders in the country,  Mrs Fakaia said.

The Study's objective is to establish an effective public and private investment in skills development by strengthening vocational and technical education linkages with the labour market. The Study will be consistent with PIFS Forum Basic Education Action Plan  (FBEAP) and ADB's Pacific Education Strategy .

The Study outcomes will be a set of strategies for skills development that are responsive to emerging market demands of both the formal and informal sectors.

Other Pacific Islands Countries involved in the Study are Cook Islands, Fiji Islands, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Nauru, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu.

Domestic consultants in the PICs will be assisted by a group of international consultants contracted by the ADB.
