FIC REGIONAL CONFERENCE ON SMALL BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

As part of its ongoing work in the development of the private sector in Forum Island Countries (FICs), the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, in collaboration with the University of the South Pacific (USP), is organizing a three-day Regional Conference on Small Business Development in Suva, Fiji, 22 - 24 November.

"The Conference will introduce participants to key small business development services including on-line training programmes and business tools offered by the USP's Graduate School of Business and review international best practices in small business development strategies," Greg Urwin, Secretary General of the Forum Secretariat says.

Mr Urwin adds: "It is expected that the participants at the Conference will return to their home organizations and pass on the information gained through training programmes or various business networks of the private sector in their respective countries."

At the end of the Conference, participants will have gained sufficient knowledge and information to help them assist their private sector members in:

- Identifying challenges and opportunities of small businesses in the Pacific;
- Outsourcing technical assistance and support, technologies and systems to assist small businesses in the Pacific;
- Creating awareness of international best practices;
- Using internet-based business tools to support business formation and acceleration;
