REGIONAL SECURITY SEMINARS
Three Pacific Island countries will host regional security seminars over the next few weeks, as part of efforts to tackle organised crime and security threats.
The seminars in Fiji, Tonga and Vanuatu are aimed at raising awareness amongst law enforcement and border control officers about the threats facing our region, said Acting Forum Secretary General, Peter Forau.
It is important for Pacific countries to continually improve their ability to tackle security threats, as criminal elements have shown a willingness to exploit any weak areas, Mr Forau said.
Participants from law enforcement and border control agencies will be updated on recent trends including the way organised crime is evolving in the Pacific Islands. Border control issues include people smuggling, illegal immigration and identity fraud.
The Terrorism, Transnational Crime & Border Security Seminars are co-sponsored by the British High Commission in Suva, the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat and the Pacific Transnational Crime Network.
Resource personnel include experts from Australia, Fiji, France, New Zealand, Tonga, United Kingdom, United States, Vanuatu, the Pacific Transnational Crime Co ordination Centre and the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat.
