FRENCH ASSISTANCE TO FORUM
France has provided Euro125,000 (FJ$250,000) to the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat for diplomatic training and support for trade and investment activities.
"France has a strong commitment to development in the region and this contribution is another example of our valuable partnership," said Forum Secretary General, Greg Urwin. The funds were handed over today by French Ambassador, HE Eugene Berg.
The funds received by the Forum Secretariat for the regional Diplomatic Training Initiative will be managed by the University of the South Pacific, which will develop courses on issues in international politics.
France is also supporting a series of workshops on Rules of Origin for the Pacific Island Countries Trade Agreement (PICTA), as well as publications to assist the business sector to benefit from PICTA. Some of the funds will be used for investment policy support
The balance of the assistance will go towards the recovery of cost of a visit last year by a Forum Ministerial Committee to the French territory of New Caledonia.
