Forum Secretary General congratulates United States President-elect Donald Trump

Pacific Islands Forum Secretary General, Dame Meg Taylor has written to United States President-elect, Mr Donald Trump, to congratulate him for his win in the U.S election last week.

“We look forward to building on the long relationship between the United States Government and the Pacific Islands Forum,” wrote the Secretary General.

“The United States of America is a valued partner in the Pacific Region. We trust that our relationship with the United States will be strengthened through your presidency.”

“We share common concerns identified in the Framework for Pacific Regionalism: climate change; the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda; the US Tuna Treaty and fisheries; regional trade; governance and security.”

The United States of America is a Pacific Islands Forum Dialogue Partner with a common commitment to an effective international order dedicated to sustainable development, environmental protection, protection of human rights, global peace and stability, climate change, renewable energy, the post-2015 development agenda and advocacy for the special case for Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
