Media Advisory: Seminar to Explore Benefits of Pacific’s engagement in the Asia-Pacific Trade Agreement

The Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat in partnership with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) is organising a seminar on the ‘Prospective Benefits of Membership in the Asia-Pacific Trade Agreement (APTA) for the Forum Island Countries’ on Friday, 16 May 2014 at the Tanoa International Hotel, in Nadi, Fiji.

“A comprehensive study on the examination of the prospective benefits and challenges for Pacific Forum Island Countries’ membership of the APTA is being undertaken and the seminar will be the opportunity for the Members to discuss the merits of such as engagement,” says Shiu Raj, Economic Governance Programme Director at the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat. “The seminar will also consider areas of cooperation and capacity building for increased trade between the Pacific and Asia.”

Trade Officials from each of the fourteen Forum Island Countries and senior representatives from key regional agencies working on Asia and Pacific trade-related agenda have been invited to participate in this important seminar.

Media agencies are invited to cover the opening session of this seminar.
