PASO HOLDS INAUGURAL TRAINING COURSE FOR MEMBER STATES
The Pacific Aviation Safety Organisation (PASO) will be conducting its the first ever Aerodromes Inspectors Course at its headquarters in Port Vila, Vanuatu from the 31 Aug – 4 September 2009.
The course is designed to equip Pacific islanders with the necessary skills to enable them to understand the dynamics of airports and aerodromes safety. It also allows them to carry out inspections and audits in their own states and around the region. The aim is to ensure that the members are up to the international standards and requirements as mandated by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).
According to the Chairman of the PASO Council, Mr. Wilson Sagati, Director of Safety PNG, “this course will ensure that we have qualified Pacific people that are able to conduct and carry out much needed inspections and audits around the region. This course is important for a number of reasons, it’s the first for our organisation and it’s targeted at getting pacific states and our people up to speed with international auditing standards for aerodrome safety.”
According to the PASO General Manager, Mr. Seiuli Alvin Tuala, “PASO inspectors have been conducting ongoing safety and security seminars as well as audits and advisor services in the member states and have delivered targeted seminars that ensure not only an understanding of the rules system but also awareness of how to apply and use the specific rule.”
The Aerodromes course is the first of many that PASO intends to hold at its headquarters with courses in the other areas of flight operations and airworthiness being planned for the future.
”We see the PASO courses as providing a first step for its members to start to work towards qualifications in this very specialised field of aviation. Safety and security are paramount and we strive to achieve this within our member states and through the work that PASO now does. We envisage PASO having a training arm to focus specifically on delivering high quality training to the region in aviation disciplines,” Mr Tuala said.
PASO remains a significant regional initiative in a priority sector under the Pacific Plan and is contributing to achieving the aims and goals of the Plan endorsed by Forum Leaders in 2005.
The primary goal of PASO is to provide services to all its members to ensure compliance with international aviation safety and security standards. PASO uses a fee-for-service model to cover costs where possible.
The Pacific Aviation Safety Organisation (PASO) is a non-profit organisation, operated for the benefit of the member States, based in Port Vila, Vanuatu. PASO is responsible for overseeing airport and airline operational safety and security standards and ensuring they are met in its member countries. The primary goal of PASO is to provide in the long term an improvement in quality and extension of these services,
ENDS.
