FOC TO DISCUSS NEW FORUM SECRETARIAT CORPORATE PLAN
The governing council of the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, the Forum Officials Committee (FOC) which started its two-day meeting in Suva, Fiji today will discuss a new corporate plan for the Secretariat from 2008 – 2012.
The present Corporate Plan ended last year.
“Despite the time and resources constraints the Secretariat, with assistance and guidance of external consultations, was able to consult widely and extensively with members, crop agencies, staff, donors and other stakeholders in developing the new corporate plan,” said the Acting Secretary General of the Forum Secretariat, Feleti Teo when he addressed the opening of the meeting today.
“The high quality of the resulting corporate plan is a reflection of the passion and enthusiasm with which stakeholders took part in the process and now gives a much clearer view of the path and strategic direction ahead for the Secretariat,” Mr Teo said.
Explaining the proposed Corporate Plan 2008 – 2012, Mr Teo said: “The new Corporate Plan has streamlined and rationalized the previous nine programmes into four more focused and strategic programmes, two in the areas of Economic Governance, and Political Governance and Security, where the Secretariat provides direct policy advice, the other two relate to the regional coordination role of the Secretariat and Corporate Services.”
“It was an ‘evolution’ rather than ‘revolution’ process using the 2005- 2007 Corporate Plan as a basis,” said Mr Teo.
The FOC meeting will also consider a Forum Secretariat Organisational Structure Review, Budget, Planning and a Reporting Process Review
The Forum Secretariat is also proposing a Framework for Regional Meetings to the FOC meeting giving options to be considered on how to organize regional meetings more efficiently. The proposal is based on the premise that meetings are necessary for setting regional policy and as such are core to the business of the Secretariat.
