CONDOLENCE BOOK OPENS FOR THE LATE GREG URWIN


A condolence book has been opened at the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat in Suva, Fiji following the passing away of the Forum Secretary General, the late Mr Greg Urwin at his family home in Apia, Samoa on Saturday night.

“We invite friends and colleagues of the late Mr Urwin to take the opportunity to send their messages of condolences through signing the condolence book which will be open during normal working hours for the next couple of days,” says Feleti Teo, Acting Secretary General of the Forum Secretariat.

The condolence book will be send to the late Mr Urwin’s family.

A memorial service for the late Mr Urwin has been scheduled for 28th August at the Forum Secretariat in Ratu Sukuna Rd, Suva. Arrangements for the service will be made public after they have been finalized.

“Following consultations, senior management of the Secretariat has decided that to organize a memorial service fitting for the person the late Mr Urwin was, we have decided not to rush the arrangements. And the delay should give Forum Leaders the opportunity to attend the occasion should they wish after the Forum Leaders meeting in Niue 19 – 21 August,” says Mr Teo.

The body of the late Mr Urwin will be laid to rest in a funeral service scheduled for this Thursday in Apia, Samoa.

The Forum Secretariat will be represented at the funeral service by a delegation to be led by the Deputy Secretary General, Mr Peter Forau and will include senior staff representing the various programmes at the Secretariat. The Acting Secretary General will be unable to attend the funeral service due to commitments in preparation for the Leaders meeting early next week in Niue.
