Monday 26th, February 2007 Forum Foreign Affairs Ministers' Meeting The Pacific Islands Forum Secretary General, Greg Urwin, today confirmed that following consultations with the Interim Forum Chair (Papua New Guinea) and the Government of Vanuatu, he has proposed to Forum Members that a Forum Foreign Affairs Ministers Meeting be held on 16th March, 2007, in Port Vila, Vanuatu. The meeting is being convened to discuss the Pacific Islands Forum Eminent Persons' Group (EPG) Report to Forum Foreign Affairs Ministers regarding the political situation in Fiji. The EPG completed four days of consultations with stakeholders in Fiji early this month. The group was headed by Hon. Sato Kilman, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister of Vanuatu, and comprised Hon. Faumuina Luiga, Samoa’s Minister for Natural Resources and Environment, Sir Arnold Amet, retired Chief Justice of Papua New Guinea and General Peter Cosgrove, retired Chief of the Australian Defence Force. "We are currently awaiting responses from our Members on the proposed meeting time and venue," Mr Urwin said. "More information on the meeting will be made available as it comes to hand." (Ends)
