FORUM SECRETARIAT FAREWELLS DSG IOSEFA MAIAVA

The Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat in Suva, Fiji today farewelled one of its longest serving senior officers, Deputy Secretary General, Iosefa Maiava.

“Iosefa’s departure represents a huge loss for the Secretariat. During his time with the Forum he has shown great leadership dealing with the many issues with which the Secretariat has had to deal as it responds to the changing needs of its membership,” Mr Greg Urwin, Forum Secretary General says.

Mr Urwin adds: “Iosefa has played a leading role in a number of strategic initiatives associated with the Forum, including the Biketawa Declaration in 2000, which provides the mandate for regional assistance for countries in crisis as well as the reforms at the Forum and the regional institutional architecture, and the Pacific Plan, which is now regarded as the blueprint for strengthening regional cooperation and integration.”

“The Forum will miss his experience and skill, but I know he will continue to contribute to the advancement of regionalism and the good of the region in general.”

Mr Maiava, who has served as Forum Deputy Secretary General since 1999, will take up the new post as Foreign Secretary for the Government of Nauru under PRAN, the Pacific Regional Assistance to Nauru.

Ends.
