Forum Secretariat Invites Applications for Participation at the 2018 Regional Civil Society Forum

Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (January 24, 2018) -The Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat is calling for expressions of interest from civil society organisations (CSOs) who are keen to attend the Regional CSO Forum to be held from March 20th to 22nd, 2018 at the Forum Secretariat in Suva (Fiji). It will be a preparatory workshop for civil society organisations leading up to their participation in the CSO dialogues that are being scheduled with Forum Economic Ministers in Palau (in April, 2018) and Pacific Islands Forum Leaders in Nauru, later in the year.

The event is funded by the European Union under the EDF 10 Programme through the Programme for Strengthening Non-State Actors Engagement in Regional Policy Development and Implementation.

Successful applicants are expected to conduct national consultations in their respective countries prior to the preparatory workshop, in order to inform their participation at these important agenda setting, regional dialogues. Funding support is available from the Forum Secretariat to successful applicants to help facilitate the initial national consultations.

“This annual event is an opportunity for civil society organisations to engage directly with the development of regional policy. The Forum Secretariat is committed to being inclusive of all key stakeholders. Therefore working closely with CSOs is crucial to ensuring thatthe issues they raise inform the agenda for Forum Leaders and Economic Ministers when they meet in 2018.” Cristelle Pratt, Acting Secretary General of the Pacific Islands Forum said.

“In 2017, a similar process supported 40 representatives, and we are anticipating a slight increase in representation from regional CSOs this year.”

“The event aims to provide CSO representatives with the chance to meet and exchange views on regional matters pertinent to the constituents they represent, and provide a forum to explore options to develop collective positions and advice on issues of shared interests and concerns. The CSO Forum would also need to select and prepare a group of representatives that would represent CSOs in their engagement with Forum Leaders and Economic Ministers, in 2018.”

An application form and an accompanying application guideline can be downloaded from the Forum Secretariat website.

Incomplete and/or late applications will not be considered.
