The strategic objective for the good governance work programme of the Forum Secretariat is “improved transparency, accountability, equity and efficiency in the management and use of resources in the Pacific”.
Good governance is a prerequisite for sustainable development and economic growth, and as outlined in their Vision, and consistent with priority initiatives in the Pacific Plan, Forum Leaders:
"seek a Pacific region that is respected for the quality of its governance, the sustainable management of its resources, the full observance of democratic values and for its defence and promotion of human rights"

Commitments to key institutions such as anti-corruption and integrity institutions

Enhancing governance mechanisms for resource management and traditional values and modern structures

Upgrading regional statistical information systems and databases to support decision-making
