In our efforts to develop the private sector within our member countries, the Forum Secretariat offers are variety of Assistance Schemes. These are conjunctively managed by the Private Sector Development Unit and the Enabling Mechanisms Unit.
1. The Industrial Training Development Project (IDPT) The Industrial Development Training Project (IDPT) was established to support Small and Medium Industrial Enterprises (SMEs) in Forum Island Countries (FICs) through short term advisory services and training attachments preferably within the Pacific to address the capacity building needs of the regions SME’s Refer to Guidelines for details 2. The Marketing Support Fund (MSF) The Marketing Support Fund was established to assist Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises of the FICs, which are characterized by limited financial resources, lack of capital, and an undue reliance on debt. The fund aims to assist these enterprises with a direct financial injection targeted at increasing market access, enhancing products to gain competitive edge and grow export potential and capability. Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat Fellowship Scheme (FSFS) In recognition of the lack of trained personnel in the South Pacific, the Secretariat established the Fellowship Scheme. In endorsing the Pacific Plan in October 2005, Pacific Leaders prioritized an initiative to establish volunteer schemes and other forms of regional exchanges and sharing of services and expertise for regional capacity building.
