The Forum Trade Ministers Meeting (FTMM) is usually preceded by Forum Trade Officials Meeting (FTOM). The objective of the FTOM and FTMM is to discuss trade issues affecting the Forum Members, and subsequently channel recommendations to Forum Leaders for their consideration. In the recent past, the FTOM and FTMM have been convened annually, including a Special FTMM in October 2009.
Forum Trade Officials and Ministers meetings are organised by the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat. The Regional and International Trade-related work undertaken by the Forum Secretariat involves provision of technical support to the Members in the negotiation and implementation of trade and economic cooperation arrangements, and delivering of trade related capacity building programmes. The mandates for these activities are given primarily by the Forum Trade Ministers Meetings, supported by Leaders’ decisions.
