In 2007, the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat implemented the Young Professionals programme, in recognition of the need to foster the development of young people with policy skills; scale up human resources; and strengthen policy mandates and the associated effective realisation of the Pacific Plan. You could be one of the two Young Professionals we seek if you are no more than 30 years of age, speak and write in fluent English, are in an early stage of your career, able to work fairly independently and demonstrate initiative and flexibility with strong team-working capacity in a multi-cultural environment, and if you are familiar with the standard features of word processing programmes and competent in MS Excel and HTML documents/ internet web sites. The successful Young Professional (Economic Governance) will have an economic, legal or similar degree and will develop his or her capacity and contribute to the economic policy work of the Forum Secretariat, under the supervision of the relevant Advisers, by: • Conducting research relevant to Pacific Plan and EG programme priorities; • Assisting with management and logistics of relevant Ministerial meetings; • Assisting with in-country consultations; and • Other duties as directed. The salary for the position is F$20,474 per annum and benefits will include the provision of life and medical insurance. Subsidised housing may be provided subject to availability, and where applicable, airfares on recruitment and repatriation (for intern only) will be provided. The position is available for 12 months and may be extended to 24 months depending on performance and funding.
