Trade Policy Officer
TRADE POLICY OFFICER 

The overall objective of the Pacific Regional Economic Integration Programme (PACREIP) is the sustainable development of the Pacific ACP economies as an economically integrated region. Specifically, the Programme supports and facilitates the Pacific ACP States (PACPS) preparations and conduct of their Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) negotiations with the European Commission (EC) in the most coherent and effective manner with the aim of achieving a favourable outcome that fully reflects their interests and aspirations. The Programme contributes to the overall process of enhancing regional economic and trade integration not only within the Pacific region but also globally. It has six components and these are i) Support to Pacific Island Countries Trade Agreement (PICTA) Implementation ii) Capacity Building for EPA Negotiations with the EU; iii) Support for participation in the World Trade Organisation (WTO); iv) Capacity Building for Regional Economic Integration Private Sector Development; Trade Facilitation - Customs, Standards and Conformance and Biosecurity; Financial sector and Fiscal Reforms and Environmental Impact Assessment; v) Capacity building for regional tourism development; and vi) Programme Management and Coordination.

The team is looking to appoint a Trade Policy Officer. The new Trade Policy Officer will have responsibility for the: 

• Provision of policy advice, technical assistance and support to PACPS on the EPA negotiations including implementation activities that may follow subsequent to the conclusion of an EPA;
• Provision of technical assistance and support to implement the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat Intellectual Property Rights Development Project and the Traditional Knowledge Implementation Action Plan;
• Management and monitoring of consultancy contracts including preparation of TORs and contracts;
• Organisation, facilitation and conducting of in-country consultations and training on the EPA negotiations and related activities; and
• Provision of technical and administrative support to the EPA negotiations process through monitoring and reporting on work programme implementation.

This could be the perfect position for you. We’re seeking someone with a background in economics, international trade policy and law and who has had a minimum of 5 years experience in the above-mentioned areas, at the national and/or regional levels.
