The Secretariat seeks a suitably qualified and experienced person to work as Political Issues Adviser.

The Political Issues Adviser will be accountable to the Director of the Political Governance and Security Programme for:

    • Providing high quality political overview, analysis and advice;
    • The effective management and mentoring of a Research Assistant;
    • Representing Forum interests; and
    • Coordinating relevant high level meetings.

Applicants should have an advanced university degree in Political Science or other relevant discipline with substantial experience working on a broad range of political, security and good governance issues. They should also have a sound knowledge of the political issues relevant to Forum members including in the areas of security, political development and good governance. An awareness of the international concerns of Forum Members, understanding of regional political issues and extensive experience in analysis and report writing would be an advantage. Previous managerial experience would also be beneficial to this position. Applicants should be willing to travel economy class.

The appointment will carry a competitive remuneration and benefits package including medical and life insurance. The starting salary for the position is approximately SDR31,090. According to the exchange rate used in September 2008, this was equivalent to around FJD77,454. For non-Fijian nationals, this salary may be tax-free.
