The Secretariat seeks a suitably qualified and experienced person to work as the Forum Representative to Solomon Islands.

This job exists to liaise with the Solomon Islands Government and RAMSI, facilitate the implementation of Forum decisions, report to the Forum Chair and members, assist Solomon Islands and promote other regional initiatives.

The Forum Representative to Solomon Islands will be accountable to the Director of the Political and Security Programme for the following major functions:

• Liaise on the implementation of the Leaders’, Forum Ministerial Standing Committee and Enhanced Consultative Mechanism decisions;
• Provide advice on Forum decisions and CROP programmes and assistance, and facilitate such assistance;
• Advise the Secretary General on developments in Solomon Islands;
• Assist in the implementation of the Pacific Plan; and
• Provide Assistance to Secretariat Staff

Applicants should have an advanced university degree in Political Science or a related field. A good understanding of the political, economic, social and security situation in Solomon Islands and of the objectives and activities of RAMSI is essential. The applicant should possess sound understanding of the Forum’s decisions and the Secretariat’s work programmes particularly as they relate to the Pacific Plan; a good understanding of the role and functions of the CROP agencies; and a demonstrated ability to work with government and different stakeholders in providing accurate and useful information and advice. Applicants should also be discreet with strong interpersonal skills and have the ability to understand and be responsive to the needs of all stakeholders. Applicants should be willing to travel economy class.

The appointment will carry a competitive remuneration and benefits package including medical and life insurance. The starting salary for the position is is equivalent to approximately FJD78,848 and may be tax-free for non-Solomon Islands nationals.
